BËNJA Thermal Baths: A Guide to Albania’s Hidden Gem
The Bënja hot springs provide an incredible experience and are located approximately 14 km from Përmet. The springs sit on the banks of the Langarica River, surrounded by towering mountains that form a magnificent gorge, making it an ideal spot for nature lovers. From the Middle Ages, the Ottoman stone bridge, Kadiu, stretches over the blue-green waters, leading visitors to the Thermal Baths, which form from the geothermal waters near Përmet.
During my visit, I was completely captivated by the natural beauty of this place. As someone who appreciates locations that feature both mountains and water, the Bënja hot springs did not disappoint.

The hot springs, in particular, offered a very pleasant temperature, not too hot despite the summer heat.

Where to stay?
Located just 14 km away, the city of Përmet is the nearest town to this breathtaking spot. I highly recommend staying in Përmet for both car and non-car travelers. If you have a car, you’ll save time and make the most of your trip. On the other hand, if you’re taking the bus, you’ll still have easy access to the destination. During my visit, I had a car and stayed in Sarandë, a charming beachfront location. However, the 2-hour drive to the thermal pools and the over 100 km distance took away valuable time, and I regret not being able to explore Përmet.
